A Garment A Week – Week 37 – 16/09/16
I seem to have buried myself pretty good in getting costumes made for a party around Halloween. So much so, I almost forgot to create a garment for my challenge this week!
The lovely Angela and her lovely mum Jenny, have given me pieces of fabric for me to use and amongst the fabric were jeans ready to repurpose. I had seen the #therefashioners2016 floating around instagram for the last few months and after researching it, I found the challenge this year is to refashion jeans into something completely new. So here is my entry!
Made from three pairs of jeans is an easy fit dress with pockets 🙂 Self drafted pattern and sewn up in a day!
The lightest pair is the front panel and back, the centre back has a seam with an invisible zip so those two panels were cut from the front sides of the jeans, making sure the lighter wear matched in the middle. There is a little bit of stretch around the zip as those areas were previously knees on the jeans but after a good press it’s sitting ok.
The medium colour pair makes the panels in the centre front and back also the pocket bags and neck facings.
The darkest colour pair is the lower front and back and the top front and back panels which also include the sleeve.
There is cotton tape sewn into the seam at the top of the pockets and into the neckline so they won’t stretch out of shape.
The sleeves are hem are rolled up and stitched like jean hems.
A really comfy dress that’ll work really well in spring and summer too with the loose fit.
And some old jeans have a new lease on life and I have an entry for the Refashioners 2016 (www.makery.uk for details if you want to enter too!)
I’m posting updates on the costume pieces in stages as I finish bits on Instagram as I go, if you want to follow me I’m @stitchremedy, or you can search the #stitchremedy and you’ll find me 🙂
I love your refashioned dress, I would totally wear it myself, and I’m not usually one for refashioned clothing!
Thanks Nilla 🙂 I don’t usually refashion either except with jeans!
