A Garment A Week – Week 44 – 04/11/16
It’s pouring down with heavy rain here, luckily the decor in this house matches my style this week!
A light cotton print dress in the style of a Simplicity pattern from 1976. I did make some changes to the fit so it’s not quite straight from the pattern.
It has a v neck with the front bodice in three pieces. Top two meet in the centre with small gathers under the bust. The lower piece is an inverted v shape. It’s really hard to see with the print of the fabric I used. The skirt is in six panels flaring at the lower edge and the back bodice has darts. An invisible zip in the centre back to get in and out.
The neck is faced and the lower panel on the bodice is bagged out. The sleeves have a join in the centre as I ran out of fabric, they also have a few small tucks across the shoulder.
I had to lift the shoulders quite a lot during the construction as the original pattern was for two sizes bigger and even grading it down to my size a few things still weren’t quite right, but then it was a pattern from the 70’s! The hem and sleeves are overlocked and stitched up.
I’ve enjoyed wearing this dress today, with it’s vintage look, I can wear it to work 🙂
