A Garment A Week – Week 50 – 16/12/16
A stretch knit dress for Lily’s final primary school assembly. She had asked for a dress with a peter pan collar and bands around the sleeves. So we tried to make it using this fabric that Lily had picked from my big pile of fabric. But unfortunately the fabric was too thin and couldn’t support a collar with fusing in it and a facing. So with little time until the assembly (the night before) I removed the collar and bands and gave the neckline a nice binding and a small double roll hem on the sleeves.
The keyhole shape at the back is bound first before the neck and a dome is keeping it together.
We did have a button sewn on top to look like it was holding it together but it kept getting caught in Lily’s hair so we removed it.
The seams are just overlocked to keep the stretch and the hem is just turned up and sewn. One day I’ll get a proper coverstitch machine lol.
The pattern for this dress came partially from Lily’s Tinkerbell dress pattern and partially from a packet pattern.
Wow only two more weeks to go! This coming week is going to be super busy and I have no plan for a garment yet! But I’ll figure something out
We also made our first pairs of Bunzies this week! The best fitting underwear Lily has had! Blog post coming …
