A Garment A Week – Week 32 – 12/08/16

A special week 🙂  A challenge issued to you all ♥

There’s no ice this year!   Just paint your face blue, make a small donation (so fast and easy with internet banking) and nominate your friends – who can come up with the best face painting?

My sewing this week is a pattern taken from a favourite top I have.  I had taken in the original top to change the shape a bit and I really like it so now I have the pattern for more 🙂
The stripe fabric is a stretch knit and the plain black is a light stretch merino.  That will be good for keeping my arms warmer in this cold weather.
I managed to match the stripes under the arms (see in pic below) so they continue around my body.  I also made the back curve dip a bit lower than the original.
The hem and sleeve hems are just overlocked and double line stitched (should be coverseamed).
The neckline is a piece of the fabric attached like a ribbing.  I then attempted to stitch a piece of the fabric like the binding you find on the back necks of t-shirts, over the join of the ribbing and main shirt.  This worked ok and kinda looks ok but my machine didn’t want to sew through that many layers of stretch fabric without skipping stitches – so I went over the stitch line about three times lol.  It now just looks like it was meant to be a heavier stitch.  I need to get some proper stretch needles as my ball point ones aren’t cutting it.
I am loving this top, will definitely gets loads of wear from it.
