A Garment A Week - Week 31 - Vintage Inspired Crop Jacket - stitchremedy.com

A Vintage inspired crop jacket to go with another of my dresses for work.
I found time between the heavy rain and wind today to get a few photos – I did have to wait until the Olympic opening ceremony was done first 🙂
I also forgot to photograph it without the black long sleeve merino underneath but it was so cold outside I was in too much of a hurry to get back inside!

It’s a self drafted pattern, I did spend ages trying to get the bust darts right as the fabric didn’t want to sit right and the ones I transferred from the pattern just didn’t look right. I’m still not overly happy with these ones.
The body has vertical darts too, to bring in the hem to the right shape. The hem is where the waist seam is on my dress, I can still access my dress pockets 🙂
The big wide collar is one I’ve seen on quite a few 50’s-60’s patterns. And to make it a little more modern, I’ve added a zip behind front edge instead of buttons.
The sleeves are also 3/4 as most jackets from that era are too. And I won’t need to roll up my sleeves at work!
My zip was only 30cm and the front edge is 35cm, so it doesn’t quite reach the top and the corners flop forward, so I may attach a dome to hold it up or a button right at the top.

I get really cold in winter so I’ve lined it with a light merino knit just for a little extra warmth.
Another super busy week with work and I spent Friday at the Intermediate helping the kids to cut and sew the patterns I’ve made for their costumes, it was a lot of fun and awesome to see all the boys eager to get behind a sewing machine too 🙂
Hopefully with all the Olympic sport on the next few weeks I remember to make something next week! lol
