A Garment A Week – Week 2 – 15/01/2016
It’s hard to say exactly what a fabric is when it’s pulled from my stash lol but to hazard a guess I’d say it’s a polyester/spandex mix. A bit of weight to hold shape but a nice amount of stretch for movement.
A side invisible zip and a button on the waistband to get in and out of it. Darts front and back. A box pleat frill at the hem to finish.
This did start as cut from a pattern from my collection, I think it was printed in 1985. But I cut my own waist…band pattern as I prefer the curved waistband to the straight. As I was sewing and fitting this skirt, I did have to make quite a few changes to get it to fit nicely. The darts had to be increased and lengthened. The side seams needed taking in and I tapered the sides in at the bottom too as it gave a nicer silhouette. The frill on the pattern was also twice as long and the pleats all folded to the right. I liked the symmetry of the box pleat better.
A comfortable skirt that moves really nicely. I will need to create some nice tops to go with it.
And I promise you won’t always have to put up with me modelling lol, I’ll be creating some things for my daughter soon too!
