A Garment A Week – Week 14 – 08/04/16

Very uninspired this week lol hopefully my enthusiasm returns next week.  I’m still dealing with more anxiety this week than I’d like and unfortunately until other people decide what they’re doing, I won’t know how their decisions will effect my life.  I hate feeling like I have no control.
Just a packet pattern for this dress. Only changes I made were to shorten the sleeves and I added tucks at the back on the neckline as I cut a size too big or my fabric was too stretchy.
My machines had major issues with the fabric.  My machines are older industrial types.  My straight stitch machine only does straight stitches and the stitch length likes to adjust itself lol.  It has a computer top box to automatically backtack when you start and finish but the clonking the machine goes through doing that, jiggles the stitch length dial.  I need to keep a close watch on it.  I have spoken to a mechanic and apparently theres not much I can do about it 🙁  My overlocker (serger) is a bit newer and usually works well but she’s started skipping stitches lately, maybe she needs some love?

I tried changing needle types, changing thread qualities, re-threading and changing all the tensions but I couldn’t get it to sew nicely. Not tight enough and skipping stitches.
Switch to a piece of cotton and it stitched perfectly – research and learning needed 🙂
So all the seams are stitched twice lol. Just turned under hems too, I need a coverseam machine.  (Mentally adding to my wishlist – ooh I should make a wishlist blog page!)

I do like the way this one is able to be worn in different strap configurations. But I think the dress would look good all in the same fabric and without the print.
Nice for the cooler days that are coming.
